Wayne Serie & The Motley Crew

“Born to Be Wild” (for 10 summer days)

From the look of this Motley Crew, there’s not much wildness going on these days. We’re all settled down, happily married business men with children, grandchildren, successful careers & busy schedules. So, what are we doing on motorcycles for ten days this summer? Because it makes us better husbands, fathers, grandfathers businessmen & in my case a better Vistage Chairman; a better leader.

Why? Because during this adventuresome ten-day journey I get to practice what I preach by giving myself a return on investment of my own downtime. I toss aside my business suit and don my motorcycle gear & hit the road with my motorcycle buddies.

Any motorcycle enthusiast will tell you that while riding, not only is it hard to think of anything else, but it’s dangerous. There’s nothing automatic on a motorcycle because a driver’s hands and feet are always at work. Your left hand works the clutch and turn signal while the right hand simultaneously works the front brake.

In the meantime, your right foot works the rear brake while your left foot simultaneously changes gears. It’s takes a lot of concentration which is why it forces the luxury of forgetting my day job for ten days each summer. This is good since I have no choice out of precaution to safety.

I mean, forgetting my day job for ten days doesn’t mean I’m relaxed on my bike, nor should I be. Any person who rides a motorcycle will attest that you’re always aware of your own mortality on the road. In a car, you have some shelter, whereas on a bike, there is none. So, we are being careful, taking our time, sticking to our schedule and taking plenty of breaks to rest.

We look forward to bringing you some great photos of our journey and some fun leadership articles along the way. Thank you for joining our adventure & stay tuned!
